"come back" I implore you, "don't go googling yet". There is no such thing. Trust me, I have looked far and wide all over the great big googling network.
But that does not mean you cannot have your very own Express Maternity Jeans. I simply do not look good in any other jeans besides Express. I also never pay full price. Rarely do I spend more then $35. a pair.
Sign up for the Express Next card, the coupons, and shop only the sales. Buy ahead for the next season during a sale, and you too can always look polished and fabulous, or dark and ripped, without the price tag Express has on their jeans.
I have a gazillion pictures to upload with this tutorial, so be prepared to scroll. . . .
This is a pair of Midrise Jean Leggings from Express, in size 10. One size up from my normal size 8.
So without further ado...
Lay your jeans out with the zipper closed. Cackle as you gaze at the pristine denim.
Look at the zipper. You are going to snip down on both sides of the zipper, neatly cutting it out.
See how flawlessly that gets the zipper out of the way?
Next you are going to cut the front out for your panel.
I do not measure, I just cut, and then lay the cut left side onto the uncut right side so it matches perfectly. Note how I am leaving room so the pocket stays functional.
This is how it should look when you are done cutting the front.
Next step is to serge all around the front to hold the pockets and the front where the zipper was, closed and in place.
Now carefully cut the back belt loops off, and then the back belt.
Lay your cut yoga band out, beside the jeans that are ready to sew.
Lay your yoga band in half, and sew the length of it.......
....before turning it with both wrong sides together to make a round band.
This is the only place I recommend you pin. That seam needs to stay tightly together to get a perfectly smooth yoga band.
Here you can clearly see the size of my yoga band, compared to my jeans.
Match the back seam, to the back middle of the jeans. Match the middle front, to the middle front, and the sides to the sides. This will show you exactly how much to stretch the knit so the seam is perfectly smooth.
Now carefully sew around with the sewing machine on straight stitch. Follow it up with the serger, and they are done!
Shake them out, and try them on. Note how you can use the pockets!
Pose in your horribly messy sewing room.
This blog would not be complete without a picture from the back. Note how strategic those big pockets are. This is so very slimming compared to the normal run of the mill Mom jean.
You can also fold over the waist band to make a super comfy, under the belly band. I go a step further and wrap my hips with the 2 in 1 belly band from Belly Bandit
I wrap the bandit with my yoga band up over my belly, then I simply fold the yoga band down over the bandit, totally hiding it. It has given me my mobility back. Its a miracle how much it cut down on that terrible hip pain that sets in around month 5. I have had trouble falling because the left side of my hip randomly numbs and collapses. If you have this problem, please consider buying a 2 in 1.
I paired my Express Jeans with my leather Frye boots from a few years ago, and my beloved Urban Southern Crossbody Wallet.
Ps. . I am now 27 weeks along to the 12 weeks in the picture. These same jeans fit as wonderfully now as they did then, thanks to the 100 squats I crank out a day.
Do your squats my birdie friends. I am sure you need them.
